Our Story

Promoting the Gospel through book series and crafts.

Dennis and Dolores have been married 43 years this October; they were married in Las Vegas 1978.

In their early years together Dolores worked at Pacific Telephone in the Los Angeles area where Dolores grew up. Dennis was working in the movie industry during the day and part time jobs at night. Dennis’ vision of working in the movies died when an actors strike lasted 6 months. The two were starting a family so they decided to make a big move to Kentucky, Lexington. Dolores, being an avid horseman, found work at horse farm galloping 2yr old racehorses; she had learned to break yearlings and galloping in Southern California.

Dennis was working different jobs to support their growing family. Next move was to Ohio, then to Indiana where Dennis is from. Dolores kept with riding horses and decided to become and EMT and then a Paramedic, which she served as for 12 years.

While living in Indiana, Dennis and Dolores gave their lives to Jesus Christ changing their destiny together forever….

Since High School Dennis has always been an active musician, singer and song writer.

In 1994, Dennis and his brother Marvin (also an avid musician and singer) started a Christian music group, Brother2Brother. From 1994 to 2013 the duo sang in hundreds of concerts for Christ. They recorded 4CDs and 2DVDs. The name eventually made a name change to Horine Brothers Music for Christ. Their music and videos can be seen to this day on YouTube, Reverb Nation. In 2013, a sudden illness hit Marvin and went home to be with his Heavenly Father.

In 2002 and 2008, Dolores had life threatening health issues. With their faith, they got through this and now Dolores is healthy. Dolores retired from being a paramedic. Because of her love for healthcare she now works for a local doctor as a MA.

After Marvin’s passing, Dennis tried to keep the music alive but it just wasn’t the same.

Dennis and Dolores made another big decision. They moved from Indiana to Oregon to be closer to two of their children and grandchildren. Although their daughter still lives in Iowa, they wanted their younger grandchildren to get to know them as well as their granddaughter in Iowa does.

This is where it gets interesting…

The woman that sold her house to them had two dogs and cat and was moving to an apartment that would only allow two pets. She chose her dogs, and Dennis and Dolores took her cat…so that made five cats for the Horine family!

The Horine cats were used to going outside, so they had to make a pet door so they could come and go as they please. When Mr. Wilson (the feline friend that stayed with the house) found out he could go out too, he was elated! There is a fence to keep everyone safe with a gate, but whenever the side door was opened he would sneak out and explore beyond the gate.

This is when God gave Dennis the idea of a children’s book series to help spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ, “The Adventures of Mr. Wilson: Beyond the Gate.” God gave the name Mr. Wilson to this curious Himalayan cat, and his antics bring to life the lives of Dennis, Dolores and their feline family.

The Adventures of Mr. Wilson Book Series can be purchased here on their website and also on Amazon. On top of writing and publishing this children’s book series Dennis and Dolores still love their other projects. Dennis still is a musician, singer, and songwriter and works part time. Dolores still works part time but her passion is sewing, spinning, knitting, and embroidery for her grandchildren and friends.
